How do we work?

We have a rigorous process for identifying and selecting suitable sites and land for wind energy projects. By studying maps, taking advantage of our in-house expertise, and being proactive in dialogue with different stakeholders, our aim is to identify as early as possible whether there are hurdles that will hamper the implementation of the project.

When we take the next step, we want to be sure that the project has a good chance of being implemented. Once we have found an area we consider suitable, our negotiators will contact the landowners to hear their views on a potential project. If there is interest, we will then negotiate a lease contract.

What kind of land are we looking for?

One of the most important conditions for developing a wind farm is proximity to a grid connection point. The area also needs to be large enough to accommodate at least five turbines. A wind farm must not conflict significantly with other interests such as natural and cultural values, reindeer herding, airports, and so on. Good wind conditions and buildable land are also essential.

Typically, wind farm projects maintain a minimum distance of 1,000 meters from nearby residences to meet noise regulations and reduce visual impact. We always strive to find locations where the impact on the landscape is as minimal as possible. However, modern turbines are tall, and it is impossible to develop wind farms that are completely out of sight.

After signing the lease contract

Once we have signed a lease agreement with the landowner(s), we submit a grid capacity inquiry to the grid operator to find out if there is available capacity on the network and to understand the cost of connecting the project to the grid. If the response is positive, we can proceed to the next step.
