Battery storage with Baywa r.e.
Around the world, BayWa r.e. currently has 6 GW of hybrid installations with battery storage under development and 2 GW of standalone battery storage under development.
Battery storage secures access to more renewable energy
Battery storage temporarily stores electricity, which is then used to stabilise the grid when supply and demand do not match. They are very important additions to the efforts to integrate more renewable energy into the electricity grid and tackle the limitations of grid expansion.
In Sweden, for example, there is a major requirement for fast balancing services procured by Svenska Kraftnät to avoid or mitigate disturbances in the frequency behaviour of the electricity grid for short periods. Cheaper battery systems will eventually support energy storage for longer periods and allow solar electricity produced during the day to be stored for later use in the evening when demand is higher.
Standalone or as a complement to other facilities
BayWa r.e. is working on developing battery storage systems that can be standalone or complement existing wind or solar farms. We are working on project development including site selection and preliminary design, preparing business plans, acquisition, and construction.
Today, we have secured land leases to build several battery storage facilities around Sweden and our aim is to accelerate this work even further in the future.
